Wajima Lacquerware Chopsticks - Ichimatsu
Couples chopsticks in a black gift box, perfect for a wedding gift or wedding anniversary.
Ichimatsu is a checkered pattern of alternating squares or rectangles often using two colors. In the mid-Edo period, Kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu wore a kimono with a checkered pattern on stage, and it became very popular among women at that time. Since then, the pattern has been named after the actor and remains popular until this day. The ichimatsu pattern symbolizes prosperity as the shapes continuously extend, and is thought as a pattern of good omen- the continous prosperity of the family and expansion of ones business.
Please add a furoshiki if you are thinking of purchasing as a gift.
